So what did you do over the weekend?
Well, being that we're here in BFE, there weren't a whole lotta options. We went swimming, BBQ'd and even lit fireworks 3 nights in a row.
And we also hit the theaters.
First we sent to see WALL-E. And being that it was a Disney/Pixar Film, I was all for it. But honestly?
It just wasn't there for me.
Don't get me wrong - the kids enjoyed it, it was still a cute show, and it carries a really good message...
We had a good talk afterwards, brainstormed ideas on how to preserve energy and the earth and what can we do better and yadiyadiyada...
But it just wasn't much... entertainment.
The next night, we bought our discounted tickets from Costco, packed up snacks and drinks and went to see Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda.
I should tell you, that I was not excited about seeing this movie. But I heard some great reviews on it, and hoped to be pleasantly surprised.
In actuality, I was laughing my ass off. (I wish!)
OMG - I even caught Hubz chuckling a couple of times. Friggin' Jack Black is hilarious. I wasn't always a fan, but he's growing on me.
Besides, we're still quoting our favorite lines from the movie.
Panting, and a pause. "Stairs."

Mr. Huxtable Himself

lol - it's true. Last year, "Dr. Huxtable" gave two laugh out loud performances at a benefit for one of our local charities.
Hubby's job sure has its perks. Not only did we get front row tickets, but we were 2 of 20 who got a chance to personally meet the master storyteller backstage.
69 years old and still as quick witted as ever, his warm and lighthearted personality made us feel right at home. Take a look at Joe - like a kid in a candy store!

What are your kids listening to?
hese days, so many songs seem to be centered around love and hate. Some of the kids singing these songs are way too young to really, truly understand what it means to "love."
The others? Well, they're part of what brings a bad rep to hip-hop and rap music.
I mentioned before that I'm a fan of old school hip-hop and rap. That and country, pop and Christian rock. But sometimes, a girl just wants to get funky and uh, sorry, but - "The Good Stuff" just ain't gonna cut it. ;) Talk about an eclectic mix, huh?
Anyhoo, with a 13-year old in the house listening to the same music as I am, we really need to be subjective about the songs we download from iTunes. So when my inaanak (goddaughter) Ling told me about this video from YouTube, I had to check it out.
A teen's mathematical prodigy of Fergie's Fergilicious
OMG, JC and I were laughing our asses off! JC really got a kick outta it, especially having kicked butt in the math bowl - and was pleased to tell me that he actually knew all of the stuff mentioned in the video. (Glad to hear it, coz most of it was only vaguely familiar to me!)
Talk about creative - it's really neat to see these kids having fun with school and applying their talents into productions like this these.
And not cruisin' the neighborhood lookin' for trouble.
Check out his video - I think one of my favorite parts is when he's (LOL) dancing in the background and when he says, "Hold, hold, hold up - check your work!"

Think of Me
kay, see - whenever I listen to David Archuleta sing on American Idol, I catch myself with this goofy grin on my face.
But I'm ESPECIALLY in love with his last performance - Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Think of Me."
Maybe I'm partial to it because Phantom is one of my favorite shows (both onscreen and on Broadway), or maybe I was remembering our last trip to Sin City with Rae and Ryan when we got to see the Vegas production of it... or hell - it's probably because it made me think of all the times Joe and I would sing our hearts out with it like the silly geese we are.
Whatever it was, it just left me with this stupid, happy feeling inside. And after the helluva week I've had, I shore needed it. Why did it take me so long to catch up on my TiVo?
I hope it comes down to Archuleta or Syesha. Man - she KILLED it with "One Rock and Roll Too Many." I never heard the song before but DAMN - that is what a performance should be.
So... Syesha? Or Archuleta? (I obviously don't give a sh*t about the other David or Jason, do I?)

Movie Review | War Dance

he term "documentary" does not give this film justice... The images in this film are so vivid... the emotions, so raw... someone sneezed onscreen and I actually caught myself whispering, "Bless y-."
Still not convinced? Check out their Official Site and turn the volume up. I'd join you but I'm still counting my blessings over here...
My Rating: 4.0 Stars (out of 5)

by Jenni Robison
"War/Dance is a new documentary movie about three brutalized children of Northern Uganda and their dream of musical expression. The documentary is set amidst the violence of the Lord’s Resistance Army (L.R.A.), who kidnap sleeping children to abuse them and force them into rebellion and murder, sometimes even murder of their own families. Despite the horror, War/Dance has captured a beautiful story about the epic, unbreakable spirits of these children."

Movie Review | Gone Baby Gone
Man, this one sure got me and the hubby talkin'.
If you're a fan of Mystic River, then you won't be disappointed in Gone Baby Gone. The twists and turns most certainly do not disappoint, and I can promise you, that by the end of the movie, you'll be as torn and confused as the characters on screen, asking yourself the same question: "What would you do?"
Was this movie worth my 2 hours? Fo' sho.
MY RATING: 4.0 stars (out of 5)

Meeting the King of Pop
Do you ever get star struck? Drawn to people icons and catching up on celebrity gossip? I remember back in high school - EVERYONE seemed to work at Seaport Village. We'd all head over on the weekends and hang out, some of us working, some of us not. ;)
Rachel worked at the Jolly Lolly back then, and was closing up shop. The doors were already locked - I was just outside one door, and some other people waiting at the door on the other side. She lets me in first, and now I can see that some BIG Mutha is outside the other door. Rachel goes on over to open the door for him. NO IDEA who he was.
"Rae! WTF?!"
She "shushes me" and proceeds to unlock it. Acting a little - strange, tentative.
But BIG Mutha had stepped aside, and in walks some weirdo with a satin red mask on his face, holding on to his arm candy.
OMG - Michael Jackson needed a sugar fix.
---
(Continued...)
It took me a half second to realize that MICHAEL JACKSON and PRISCILLA PRESLEY were right in front of me, browsing through the candy jars.
So what did we do? We did our jobs - squealed - as quietly as we could - like the high school girls we were. But this b*tch, Rachel, kinda lost it when they were ready to pay.
It'd be neat if I could remember what they bought, but mostly I remember BIG Mutha bustin' out the cash to pay for the candy, and all of a sudden, this high pitched shriek coming out of nowhere.
Rachel: "Aaaaahhhhhhhh!!!"
Somehow, she had lowered herself to the floor and a giggle escaped from her as she stood up with a smile and said, "Oh sorry. I just had to get that out." Classic.
That was all we needed - it broke the ice, we got his autograph (now WHY didn't we ask for Priscilla's???) and we were high for a month. I'm still trippin' that she made Michael Jackson WAIT instead of me - lol!!
Do you watch "Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew?" They did a tribute to the "Thriller" album in honor of its 25th anniversary - and d*******mmmmmn... Jabbas Rule!!
I don't know about our girl on Idol though, Ramiele... I really hope she sticks with it, but it's like she's holding back or something. Nervous? Come on, girl - don't let us down!
Check out the Jabbas P.Y.T. routine above - they definitely know how to bring it.

Ramiele Malubay
Does anyone watch American Idol? I have to admit I TiVo it. (I LOVE TiVo!!) I may not have the chance to watch it when it's on, but when I finally get to sit down on the couch, I don't want to waste time surfin' thru channels or watching commercials. I'll bring up my List, which this year, includes the show I've stayed away from in years past.
We caught the show live last time, and while I have a couple of favorites from this year's Top 24, it was trippy to see a Pinay up there on stage!!! Not a bad singer at all and cute as a button, we had to vote for her. Except... I wasn't too thrilled with her "Hair and Make Up" answer.
Come on, girl - you're representin'!! Did you see Simon's face? Not pleased. Not pleased at all.
